Sometimes It’s Not Always Easy to Listen to Good Advice, Such as About Long-Term Care Insurance
How many times in your younger years did you shirk good advice? It’s easy to do. In fact, just about every single one of us has done it more than a few times. Good advice can be presented in numerous ways, and sometimes you just don’t recognize its value at the time it’s presented to you. Take, for example, the topic of long-term care insurance.
Perhaps you’ve heard about long-term care insurance, but hadn’t yet been convinced this is the right option for you and your future. Now, though, you’re getting older, becoming more acutely aware of your health, declining physical abilities, and might have recently assisted an aging parent or grandparent through a difficult transition of their Golden Years.
Why many people discount long-term care insurance.
One of the most common excuses people have for not carrying long-term care insurance when they should is, “I’m not going to need it.”
Left to their own devices, most people wouldn’t carry automobile insurance if it wasn’t required by law, either. Or so it seems. That’s because most people assume since they are good drivers (at least in their own mind), they won’t become involved in an accident.
Yet, as more and more people realize these days, there are basically two types of drivers: those who have been involved in an accident and those who will.
The same isn’t exactly true about long-term care, but at least half of Americans today will require some type of long-term care at some point in their life.
That can be a sobering fact.
If you’ve never thought about it before, consider it again: more than half of Americans today will require some type of long-term care in their future.
So, if you have heard some well-intentioned and reasonable advice regarding long-term care insurance, it’s time to listen. March is International Listening Awareness Month and in our social media driven society, we too often have the intention of talking, shouting, and leaning on our own understanding rather than listening to the good counsel and advice of others.
If you’re in your early to mid 50’s, now is the perfect time to consider long-term care insurance. This is the “sweet spot” for this type of insurance as you will have the best access to quality options at reasonable monthly premiums.
If you haven’t done so yet, make an appointment and meet with an experienced long-term care insurance agent or broker to see what it can offer you and your spouse or other dependent in the coming years.
