One Key Reason More People Don’t Ever Consider Long-Term Care Insurance
It’s not easy for some people to consider various types of insurance. That’s because of the expense of the premiums. They see the quote of monthly premiums as taking money out of their pocket, rather than offering them a legitimate form of protection that could be instrumental in the future. The cost of the policy is one of the main reasons people don’t actually consider purchasing a long-term care insurance policy, but it’s not the only big one.
Many don’t think they’ll need it.
If a person drives incredibly safe, never has any close calls, doesn’t speed, is extremely careful at all intersections, and assumes every other car on the road is going to do the dumbest possible thing imaginable, he or she might not think automobile insurance is really necessary for them. Fortunately, it is law in every state that people carry at least minimal coverage when they have a registered vehicle on the roads.
If it wasn’t a law, there would be millions upon millions of people who might likely forgo automobile insurance, assuming they would never be involved in an accident. After all, if you pay attention, drive slow enough, and are constantly vigilant and pay attention to every other vehicle out there, what are the odds you’ll get involved in an accident?
Even for the safest drivers, accidents happen.
That could be what leads to the need for long-term care. Imagine somebody getting involved in a serious automobile accident they never thought was possible. They could spend days or even weeks in the hospital. A broken leg, hip, spinal injuries, or other injuries could lead to months upon months or years of recuperating and recovery.
During those months and years of recovery, that person might need the support and assistance of a caregiver. At first, it could be a spouse, sibling, parent, or even an adult child. It might be a friend or neighbor. However, when it goes on long enough, this can place undue stress and pressure on that particular caregiver, which is why a home care agency might be a better option.
With long-term care insurance, a person can be protected to a specific length of time in the event they need long-term care, whether it comes in the form of a home care aide, nursing home, assisted living, or something else that would be covered under the particular policy.
Just because people assume they won’t need long-term care is not a good reason not to consider long-term care insurance. Health emergencies, accidents, and other situations can arise out of the blue, completely altering one’s day, and life.
