Long-Term Care Insurance: Quick Ways to Look into it
In our hustle and bustle, rush-rush-rush society, it seems as though no one has time for anything anymore. If you have heard about long-term care insurance, but haven’t looked into it because of your busy schedule, things aren’t going to change in the next year, five years, or even 10 years (most likely).
Unfortunately, most people say they don’t have time for such things, but what they really mean is those things are not a priority.
If you’re in your late 40’s or early to mid 50’s, now is the ideal time to look into long-term care insurance. If you wait much longer, you could either be denied a policy due to of your health situation, family history of health issues, or some other factor.
The policy could also become out of your financial comfort zone if you wait too long, but one thing is certain: the older you are, the more likely you will require some type of long-term care in the future. The question really becomes: how will you pay for it?
A lot of people assume health insurance will cover it.
Most health insurance policies will not cover long-term care expenses. Short-term, sure, but not long-term. And Medicaid is only going to cover certain types of senior care, like nursing home care, but only after the individual has used up all his or her available assets, which often includes the equity in their home, if they own one.
Don’t let your savings and retirement investments be obliterated by long-term care costs. Look into long-term care insurance now, while you have the time.
Now, how can you do this? Let’s look at three ways to look into long-term care insurance.
1. Do a quick Internet search.
It’s pretty simple, right? Even for people in their 60’s and 70’s, they understand how to use a computer for the most part, or know somebody who does.
It only takes a few moments and even if you don’t think you have time, you do.
2. Look at this information while heading to work.
If you drive yourself to work, don’t do this (of course), but if you ride a train or bus, that’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about this insurance. If you have a smartphone or tablet that connects to Wi-Fi or cellular service, there you go.
Problem solved. Now, you should have no real excuse why you can’t find more information about a long-term care insurance policy that is tailored for you and your spouse.
3. Prioritize.
February is National Time Management Month and if you’re one of those people who say, “I don’t have time for this,” change that to, “It’s not a priority.” That’s really what it’s about.
Priority.
Yet, if you’ve been saving for retirement, investing, building a portfolio, and have plans for your Golden Years to travel and do other things, either by yourself or with your partner or spouse, this should most certainly be a priority.
It takes less than a commercial break during your favorite television show to find accurate information on a long-term care insurance policy suited for you.
