What Does Long-Term Care Insurance Cover?
There are many questions people have when looking into various insurance policies. One such insurance policy not enough people actually look into is called long-term care insurance. This is a policy that can help people in the event they need any type of support and assistance, either at home, in a nursing home, at an assisted living community, or in any other living environment.
What does a long-term care insurance policy cover?
Home care.
If a person wants to ‘age in place,’ they may need the support of a home care aide, visiting nurses, and other similar providers. Depending on the physical capabilities, health issues, and other factors, a series of caregivers, part-time or around-the-clock care may be needed.
Long-term care insurance can cover some or all of this, especially if it is medically necessary.
Hospice.
When a person reaches the final months or year of their life, they may benefit from hospice care. They may still be able to get around well enough on their own, but a visiting nurse, caregivers, and other support may be necessary to help provide the kind of comfort they deserve to make this transition to the end of their life.
Adult Day Services.
Some long-term care insurance policies will cover adult day services. It’s important when you sit down and look into these policies to ask questions and make sure the services will be covered if they are important to you.
Alzheimer’s Care Facilities.
No one wants to imagine they will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but there is the risk, especially as you get older and if there’s a family history of this form of dementia. The cost of an Alzheimer’s care facility can be tremendous, so it’s a good idea to consider long-term care insurance coverage for that possibility.
Assisted Living.
In the event assisted living is necessary, the right long-term care insurance policy may cover this living environment. Not every policy is going to cover assisted living, so make sure you understand what will be covered by the policy you look into.
Nursing Homes.
If a person requires extensive medical supervision and support every day and possibly overnight, nursing home care may be necessary. Nursing homes are often considered the costliest senior care option out there, which is why it’s so important to consider long-term care insurance coverage.
No matter how old you are, your health issues, or other factors, it’s never too early to consider a discussion with long-term care insurance companies. It can be the best decision you make financially for you and your family for the future.
