Being Prepared Means Planning for the Worst When All You See is the Best
When life is going well, everything seems perfect. Your relationships are smooth, finances are in great condition, and even your physical body is holding up quite well, thank you very much. Nothing to worry about. Yet, if that’s all true, most people would still have life insurance, right? If you’ve been responsible for most of your life, and have been financially planning from your 20s or 30s for retirement, most likely you would have some type of life insurance policy and maybe even a long-term care insurance policy.
You’re not planning on dying anytime soon, though, are you? Of course not. That’s why you’ve been planning to retire. That’s why you’ve been working so hard all these years. You want to enjoy life when you reach your late 50s, 60s, or 70s. You want to kick back and travel, pursue some hobbies you put off because time wasn’t permissive in your working years.
So, if you have life insurance while you’re still in your 40s or 50s, or 60s, but you don’t plan on dying until you’re well into your 70s or 80s, or possibly even into your 90s or beyond, then why bother?
Because you never know.
That’s exactly right, isn’t it? You just never know. You carry a life insurance policy because you have been responsible and people count on you. You want to make sure your spouse, children, and others who depend on you are taken care of when you’re gone if you don’t make it to retirement.
You want to ensure that they have more than enough to be taken care of for the rest of their lives, if possible. You understand that tomorrow is not guaranteed for anyone. You may have even heard the expression, ‘Cemeteries are full of people who had other plans that day.’ You take it to heart.
That’s why you should also consider long-term care insurance.
Just like dying, you may not ever think you will need long-term care, whether it’s for a few months or several years. Most of us don’t. Even though every single one of us understands we are going to die one day, most of us rarely ever think about the prospect of requiring long-term care for ourselves. It isn’t until we witness a close family member or friend dealing with that very situation that we start thinking about it for ourselves, but even then we tend to dismiss it before too long.
You can be prepared for the future financially. You can be exercising and working out, watching what you eat, and getting the right vitamins and other nutrients every day, but that doesn’t guarantee you a long, healthy life.
You can get involved in an accident. A reckless person could completely shatter your future and leave you unable to walk again. You might have a heart attack or stroke, an aneurysm, major surgery, or some other medical emergency.
If you truly want to be prepared, even though everything seems fine right now, start looking into a long-term care insurance policy that will help protect your finances in the event you, your spouse, or another dependent of yours requires it in the future.
