3 Reasons Dad Needs to Consider Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care Insurance Encinitas CA
Your father’s getting older. Living alone, you worry about him. Even though he retired more than 10 years ago and has been quite active during his retirement, you see the signs that he’s slowing down.
His strength, agility, and balance are diminished. He’s having more difficulty getting up out of his recliner and making his way down the hall. You haven’t said anything yet, but you know it’s time to consider certain options, including long-term care insurance.
At the moment, he may still be years away from requiring the assistance of a professional home care aide, but then again anything can happen and he might need somebody’s physical support and assistance.
Even though he hasn’t wanted to discuss the prospect of hiring a home care aide, here are three great reasons why your father should at least consider purchasing long-term care insurance, even if it seems to be less cost-effective at the moment.
Reason #1: He’s getting older.
Whether your father is approaching retirement or has been retired for quite some time, he is still getting older. The older a person gets, the more likely they’ll be dealing with physical challenges, especially diminishing strength. That diminishing strength is going to affect their balance and ability to take care of themselves at some point in time.
If he makes it into his 80s and even into his 90s, the chances he’ll need extra support and assistance at home continues to increase.
Reason #2: There’s a questionable medical history in his family.
It’s your family too, but maybe his father or grandfather both suffered heart disease or stroke. That usually means he is also at an increased risk of dealing with these health issues.
If your family history indicates your father might be at an increased risk of certain medical conditions, he’s also at an increased risk of requiring extra care at home for the recovery. That should be in the form of an experienced home care aide.
Reason #3: He’s showing signs of slowing down.
Your father is slowing down. You can’t deny it and even though he keeps saying he’s fine, he really can’t deny it, either.
It’s not a bad thing to acknowledge your own limitations and admit when you’re slowing down in your physical ability to get things done. Doing things slower is fine, but it’s the earliest indication that he will likely need some type of assistance in the future.
Just because he’s okay for the moment doesn’t mean he or you should ignore long-term care insurance.
